HON. E. CLAY SHAW, JR.
OF FLORIDA
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
TUESDAY, JUNE 22, 2004

•        Mr. SHAW. Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize Ms. Marion Broadhead and her work as a member
of the Sterling McClellan Post 142 of the American Legion Auxiliary. This organization, which is dedicated
to humanitarian programs for veterans, young people, and the community, has a strong team of women
working together for the betterment of citizens lives.

•        Recently the Sterling McClellan Post 142 of Pompano Beach, Florida, honored Ms. Broadhead as
their five-time president, and current chaplain with the Unit Member of the Year Award. Ms. Broadhead was
honored at an annual Memorial Day Parade and Picnic in Pompano Beach. Former U.S. Attorney General
Janet Reno, along with members of the community and some surviving veterans, joined in this celebration.

•        Ms. Broadhead has led in the effort of community service by volunteering weekly in South Florida.
Broadhead, who is a breast cancer survivor, spends her days visiting North Broward Medical Center,
Trinity Community Church, St. Lawrence Chapel, and the Veterans Hospital in Miami.

•        Mr. Speaker, the benevolent and generous spirit that Ms. Marion Broadhead, in combination with the
Sterling McClellan Post 142, has shown to the communities of South Florida is one that I would like to
celebrate. Individuals like Ms. Broadhead help in building unified and strong communities in America.
